Acting CFPB Director Named to HUD Post as Chopra Vote Nears

CFPB acting director David Uejio was nominated by the White House to an undersecretary post at the HUD, signaling that the financial regulatory agency’s permanent director nominee could soon assume the spot.

President Biden tasked Uejio in January with running the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau until the nominee for permanent director, Rohit Chopra, is confirmed. Chopra is currently a member of the Federal Trade Commission and served as the CFPB’s first student loan ombudsman.

Uejio’s move to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, announced Thursday afternoon, would require Senate confirmation. It could also mean that the Senate moves soon .
